Microscopic Histopathologic Examination

Benign and malignant neoplastic (tumor) changes of the oral and maxillofacial tissue require microscopic histopathologic examinations in order to establish an accurate diagnosis. Incisional and small excisional biopsy techniques are generally possible in the office setting under local anesthesia and intravenous (IV) sedation. Biopsies are diagnostic procedures and may or may not be definitive treatment.
